Masacco New York is a unique, innovative design company based in downtown Manhattan. The company has been in business since 1986, and has been involved in many areas of cutting edge design. It started out designing hand silk screened wallpapers and hatboxes which were "discovered" by the visual merchandising industry, and the company evolved into doing custom display designs for top retailers all over the country, including Henri Bendel, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Express, and Victoria's Secret.

Two years ago, designer Anne Masako Moss came up with the "Chair Cocoon" as a unique solution to turn ordinary, ubiquitous (and quite ugly) metal folding chairs into stylish furniture. They were introduced at the Chicago Housewares Show in 1999, where they were picked up by Arlene Hirst of Metropolitan Home (featured in the May/June 99 issue). Their next public appearance was at the New York Home Textiles Show, where it was voted "Best New Product of 1999". They have also been used by the Hilton Hotels group to dress up the thousands of banquet chairs they have. Most recently, they were shown at the 2001 ICFF show, again with great reception.

The Chair Cocoons are available in a range of terrific fabrics: silvery metallics, icy crushed velvets, glossy deep red velours, as well as timeless black velvets and studio knits in classic colors. These Chair Cocoons fit most standard metal folding chairs and are machine washable (in cold water, gentle cycle). They are easy to pull on and off and need no ironing. They are made in New York City from imported fabrics.
